Destination of the Weekend #1
Ever since the dawn of time, aka when the whole pandemic thing kicked in, folks started racking their brains to find the coolest, simplest, hippest, and most unique business ideas out there. No more of those boring franchise gigs, we want something fresh! 🚀
That bring us to Our First Destination of the Weekend, the Kingston Collection.
This weekend, we visited our local mall to pick up a few last minute back to school supplies for my 6th grader, one thing being a string backpack.
We don’t go to the mall all that often, so the fact that it closes at 5PM on Sunday’s totally slipped our minds. It was a very last minute trip that would burn time before dinner. We pulled into the parking lot around 420PM and parked near the Macy’s entrance, remembering that the majority of remaining retail stores were closer to this door. So when we walk in, we’re expecting to be further away from most of the “Fun Stuff”.
This is what we saw instead.
Unfortunately they would be deflating soon, so I made a promise to my girls that we would come back the following day and stay for hours. Though we did get my son a nice Nike string back pack at Famous Footwear– and we did bump into our next door neighbors right outside of Newbury Comics, the place was like a Ghost Town. So I am all for spicing the place up to provide a fun, safe- indoor space for kids of all ages to come hang out.
This is looking to the right of the colossal Bounce pad. A myriad of closed gates and locked doors.
This is looking left of the giant jump pad. Empty, dark spaces where mannequins used to pose, dead ends made by cardboard walls closing off old, colorful store fronts. As depressing as it is to see, this mall in particular has never really been hip and happening. In the past, for the sake of seeing less people, I’d choose to bring my little kiddos here instead of, like, the fancy-schmancy Braintree Plaza. Not everyone would agree with me, in fact, 16 year old me would definitely choose the Plaza any day!!
When I was a small child, this mall had one of the best pet stores around. I would beg to come just to see the animals in cages 🤔!!! (hind sight)
While the pet store is gone, and so are most of the other well known and loved retail stores of the shopping mall, the Regal Cinema is still standing as well as a few key stores like Macy’s, Target, Famous Footwear, Newbury Comics, a newly added a TOYS R US… 🤔 anddd the Fan favorite – Spencer’s – the majority of retail stores are gone. In with the new, out with the old.
The stores have been replaced with a wide variety of entertainment for an even wider variety of customers. In place of the one big family friendly Pet store, there’s now dog & pet friendly spots like, “JB’s indoor Dog Park” and “Friends of the Plymouth Pound” .
For a more family friendly-fun-oriented-environment, retail stores like Charlotte Russe, Express, or Footlocker were replaced by multi-attraction arcades, Bowling alleys such as Pinz, Maziply toy mirror room mazes – zoo ride on toys, maziply toys laser tag – escape rooms, trampoline parks such as Billy Bee’s for toddlers & littles, and Sky Zone for kids of almost all ages, and the newest edition, todays topic – inflatable bounce playgrounds like Big Bouncy Party.
We came back the next day as promised. This has got to be one of our new favorite impromptu chill spots. The best part is the Price!! Jump all day for $10 per child. You can even leave to go do some light shopping, or see a movie, and come back!! Make sure you bring one of the dozens of pairs of trampoline park socks you’ve managed to collect over time, or your looking at another 2$ per pair. ( Still not bad pricing, but if you have em’, might as well use em’!!)
If your looking to try it out, first you must pay & sign a waiver (adults jump FREE!!). You’ll know just where to go right away as it has an open-door-store front that literally looks like a Birthday Party.
The room is lined with kiddie pools filled with ball-pit-balls, gymnastics matts laid out for fun and Prize tables. (There are also actual Birthday Party tables lining the walls as well) .
Once you’ve paid and signed your waiver, your kid can replace their shoes with their jump socks and head right out to the large Jump Pad!! My girls had SO much fun playing volley ball on the Jump Pad!! Even when we came back and there were a lot less kids, the safety employee initiated a 2 v 1 Volley Ball game!! It was GREAT!!
He also spun and flipped all the kids around wildly on this inflatable “Mechanical Bull Ride”. He didn’t stop til the kid fell off or let go! Kids of all ages and sizes were absolutely loving it!!
Once you get past the “Jump Pad,” There are 2 or 3 huugee Jump houses that connect and create a bounce house obstacle course that ends with a bounce house Fun Maze!!
Mom & Dads don’t want to jump, but want to relax while your kids jump? These massage chairs are $1 for 3 minutes and so on.. (bring yourself some Lysol Wipes to fully enjoy)
At the very end of our trip, each kid got to choose a Free Prize!! Who doesn’t love a free prize???
All in all, I’d say it’s 100% worth the cost, and makes for an excellent day trip for the whole family!!
